The person behind
Luna Studio.
I am Guo Lun, founder and principal designer of Luna Studio, a Singapore-based interior design practice focused entirely on residential homes.
My work sits between two sides of interior design that I believe should never be separated: understanding the people who will live in a space, and developing the design with enough technical clarity for it to become a real home.
I remain directly involved throughout the project, from the first conversation and space-planning decisions through design development, technical documentation, material selection, construction coordination and handover.
Briefs are never simply handed over in exchange for a finished concept. Important decisions are worked through together, resolved as early as possible, and that rigorous thinking is carried straight through into the built result.
Why I became
a designer.
Interior design became a profound interest because the relationship between people and space has always been fascinating.
A home is not successful simply because it looks beautiful. It has to work when people actually live in it — when they cook, work, rest, entertain, store things, move around one another and develop their own routines.
That perspective became an important anchor during formal training. Exploring how people interact with physical space, how everyday habits can inform design decisions, and how a home can support different ways of living without forcing its occupants into a single predetermined experience became a deep intellectual focus.
That belief remains the absolute guide for how designs are approached today.
"I don't design a home around a designer's lifestyle. I design it around yours."
A design question that has stayed with me.
"How can architecture create enough structure to support everyday life without becoming so prescriptive that it dictates how people must live?"
This core idea originated during formal design training and continues to deeply influence how residential space is analyzed today. A design should never become something that must be lived around. It should support existing lifestyles beautifully while providing room to live even more comfortably.
Why I started
Luna Studio.
Working across different companies permanently changed the way the interior-design industry was perceived.
The difference between selling a renovation and actually practising interior design became increasingly clear. Projects can move quickly from sales discussion to quotation to construction, but that does not necessarily mean the critical design and technical decisions have been properly resolved.
A different kind of practice needed to be built. Luna Studio was founded around a simple, unyielding idea: design, documentation, costing and construction must remain seamlessly connected.
I deliberately keep the practice lean and founder-led.
The intention is not to become the largest studio or build a large showroom operation. It is to stay exceptionally close to the work, keep communication direct, and make professional design accessible without ever losing the technical discipline behind it. The goal is simple: fewer layers between the person making the decisions and the person living with the result.
What good interior
design should do.
Design around the person, not a predetermined style
Trends can influence a home, but they should not dictate how someone lives. Daily habits, priorities, routines, storage needs, movement, and the desired atmosphere form the starting point. The aesthetic naturally evolves from understanding those requirements rather than forcing a style onto them.
Resolve important decisions before construction
A renovation becomes highly difficult when too many decisions are left for the site. Uncertainty before construction creates opportunity for delays, misunderstandings, and compromises later. Developing the important parts of the project early — spatially, visually, technically, and commercially — ensures the construction process has a rock-solid foundation.
Treat drawings as part of the design
A 3D visualisation can show what a home is intended to look like. It does not, by itself, tell someone how to build it. That is why immense importance is placed on technical drawings, dimensions, elevations, sections, carpentry information, electrical planning, and material specifications.
The most dangerous detail is often the one left undrawn.
The purpose of technical documentation is not to create more paperwork. It is to reduce ambiguity between the approved design and the work carried out on site.
Treat cost as part of design
Budget should not be something discussed only after the design has been fully developed. Scope, materials, quantities, construction methods, and priorities all deeply affect cost. Financial clarity must be embedded within the design process itself. A quotation should precisely explain what is actually being bought, not simply present a final number and ask for blind trust.
What "founder-led"
actually means.
“Founder-led” must mean much more than having the founder's name on the website. It means the founder remains personally involved in the key stages of the project.
Intimate discussions focus entirely on how daily life flows, identifying specific spatial needs, and understanding the precise constraints involved.
Space planning, design direction, material curation, and bespoke carpentry are developed meticulously alongside personal preferences.
Approved designs are translated into technical information and specifications, and a clearly defined renovation scope.
Direct involvement is actively maintained across site coordination, crucial construction decisions, and careful progress monitoring.
The project is carefully governed through completion, defect rectification, and a beautiful, structured final handover.
The structure is intentionally simple: you know exactly who you are working with, and that person remains intimately connected to the project.
What I bring to
a project.
Spatial Planning
Analyzing how rooms connect, how movement flows naturally through them, where storage belongs, and how the space needs to function effectively for everyday use.
Design Development
Developed as a coordinated design system covering materials, colour, lighting, proportions and furniture relationships.
Technical Documentation
Plans, elevations, carpentry drawings, dimensions, sections, and relevant construction information translate the design flawlessly into something the builders can refer to during construction.
Material & Construction
Design decisions meticulously account for actual materials, complex fabrication, precision installation, unique site conditions, and proven construction methods.
Commercial Clarity
Scope, quantities, specifications, and critical quotation decisions are intelligently treated as an intrinsic part of the project rather than something separate from the design.
Direct Accountability
Communication flows directly with the principal designer throughout the entire lifespan of the project, keeping communication directly connected to the principal designer.
Professional Formation
This approach is grounded beautifully in both formal design education and robust practical experience.
Formal education provided the foundation to think deeply about space, design, and the intricate relationship between people and their environment. Professional practice added the most crucial layer: drawings must reliably become construction, materials need to be selected for the intended use, maintenance requirements and project conditions, budgets must work, and designs must survive contact with the unyielding realities of a construction site.

Founded Luna Studio 2021.
Specializing exclusively in residential projects.
From idea to reality.
"I want my home to feel more open."
"I need more storage."
"I want a proper place to work."
"I don't know how to make all of this fit."
My role is to turn those initial ideas into something practical and clearly documented.
My role is to develop those initial ideas into clear spatial decisions, considered materials, technical drawings, specifications, cost information and coordinated construction work.
That is exactly where interior design proves its true value. Not simply when an image looks beautiful, but when the idea successfully survives the journey from conversation to drawing, from drawing securely to construction, and from construction effortlessly into everyday life.
Who I work
best with.
Luna Studio is particularly suited to homeowners who value thoughtful design, clear technical documentation, and deeply considered, direct communication over a generic, package-led renovation experience.
You may be a good fit if you:
- Care deeply about how the home actually functions, not only how it looks.
- Want design decisions beautifully and properly documented before construction.
- Value rigorous technical drawings and a crystal-clear project scope.
- Want direct, uninterrupted access to the principal designer.
- Prefer a highly considered, lower-volume studio environment.
- Require the design vision and the renovation process to remain tightly connected.
Luna Studio may be less suitable if:
- price-led, package-based renovation is the main priority.
- Complete construction documentation is already held, and only basic execution is required.
- Navigating a high-volume, multi-department showroom experience aligns better with current goals.
A small practice by design.
Luna Studio is intentionally small. That is not an accidental limitation of the practice. It forms the very core of the service model.
Keeping the studio lean ensures I remain intimately close to the projects accepted. Direct involvement is securely maintained in the details that matter: design decisions, drawings, materials, contractor coordination, and the day-to-day questions that inevitably arise during construction.
"I would rather work closely on fewer homes than disappear into a larger system."
Beyond the finished photograph.
The finished photograph is beautiful, but it is only the visible part of a much longer process. Behind every completed interior lie hundreds of decisions about space, proportion, materials, drawings, costs, coordination, and construction.
That is the part of interior design I care deeply about. The work is not simply to create a beautiful room. It is to create a home that makes brilliant sense for the people living in it—and to develop the rigorous information, decisions, and coordination required to make that idea real.

If understanding exactly how the home can be safely developed before construction begins is a priority, initiate the journey with a grounded conversation. Sharing exactly how daily life flows in the space, what current frustrations exist, and what the home truly needs to become forms the perfect foundation.
Good design begins with understanding the person.
Good execution begins with making the idea clear.
