Urban Twilight: A Study in Warmth & Shadow

Urban Twilight moves away from clinical minimalism to embrace the tactile depth of dark timber and atmospheric lighting. The design explores "Moody Modernism," utilizing a sophisticated palette of walnut, Nero marble, and brass. This project prioritizes a curated, introverted sanctuary where shadow and light are balanced to create a grounded, premium residential experience.

Q 84 Telok Blangah Heights

The Home Office: Linear Focus

Design Brief

Design a shared, high-productivity workspace for two users that integrates substantial storage while maintaining an open, breathable atmosphere.

The Design Challenge

The room’s narrow proportions required a layout that could accommodate dual workstations and extensive shelving without obstructing natural light or overcrowding the floor plan.

The Design Solution

We installed a custom floating walnut desk spanning the length of the room to visually elongate the space. Modular open shelving with metal uprights was utilized to provide storage without the visual mass of solid cabinetry. A integrated bay window seat was added as a soft breakout zone, while warm-strip LED lighting was embedded into the joinery to transform functional storage into an architectural focal point.

The Living Lounge: Curated & Cultured

Design Brief

Create a formal lounge that functions as a relaxation hub and a gallery for the homeowners' specific lifestyle assets: a spiritual Thangka painting and high-end bicycles.

The Design Challenge

Integrating bicycle storage into a formal living area without appearing utilitarian, while establishing a dedicated, respectful space for spiritual artwork.

The Design Solution

We designed a bespoke floor-to-ceiling walnut unit where the lower section features glass-fronted cabinets to house bicycles as featured display pieces. This is balanced by a dedicated illuminated niche for the Thangka painting, serving as a spiritual focal point. Deep blue velvet seating was selected to provide a lush textural contrast against the dark wood tones.

The Dining & Kitchen: The Social Hearth

Design Brief

Merge the kitchen and dining areas into a cohesive, open-plan zone optimized for family meals and evening entertaining.

The Design Challenge

Defining a clear transition between the high-activity kitchen workspace and the relaxed dining area without the use of physical partitions or walls.

The Design Solution

A dark marble-clad breakfast bar with slat-wood detailing serves as the visual and functional bridge between the zones. The dining area is demarcated by a mid-century sputnik chandelier and a gallery wall. We paired a raw-edge dining table with wishbone chairs to introduce organic curves that soften the linear precision of the kitchen cabinetry.

The Ensuite: Stone & Spa

Design Brief

Elevate a standard bathroom into a spa-inspired ritual space focusing on tactile immersion and warmth.

The Design Challenge

Mitigating the sterile nature of traditional bathroom tiling while introducing character and warmth in a moisture-heavy environment.

The Design Solution

We juxtaposed large-format grey stone tiles against a floating walnut timber vanity. A half-height partition wall was implemented to define the wet area while preserving sightlines. Indirect lighting installed behind the mirror and within the shower niches highlights the natural textures of the stone and creates a soft, ambient glow suitable for a spa-like experience.

The Master Bedroom: Restful Depths

Design Brief

Create a secure, enveloped sleeping quarter utilizing a dark color palette to induce rest and nocturnal softness.

The Design Challenge

Introducing dark, high-capacity joinery into a compact bedroom footprint without making the space feel claustrophobic.

The Design Solution

The wardrobe utilizes an L-shape configuration with a "soft corner" featuring open shelving. This breaks up the solid mass of the cabinetry and provides space for personal items. The palette of charcoal, cocoa, and slate is illuminated by a globe pendant and internal wardrobe lighting, creating an intimate, textured cocoon.

The Alchemy of Shadow and Texture: Material Palette

The material strategy for Urban Twilight balances architectural weight with sensory softness. We orchestrated a tension between Nero marble and walnut timber against the comfort of navy velvet and organic weaves. This "Quiet Luxury" approach ensures the home remains structurally permanent yet intimately comfortable, utilizing shadows to emphasize the quality of the premium materials.
