Design strategy: Organic Modernism

This project was conceived as a deliberate pause—a quiet dialogue between modern living and the grounding power of nature. We curated a palette rooted in the earth: deep olive cabinetry, sage-hued ceramics, and warm walnut timber that anchors the space.

Earthy Minimalism:

A Study in Serene Texture

This master suite exemplifies the "Organic Modern" aesthetic, balancing structured custom cabinetry with a soft, biophilic color palette. The focal point is a muted sage accent wall, which provides a matte, grounding backdrop for the mid-century inspired walnut media console and wall-mounted display.

Modern Serenity:

A Masterclass in Seamless Living

This master suite is a sophisticated exercise in organic modernism, where functionality meets a refined, sanctuary-like aesthetic. The design prioritizes a seamless flow between the dressing area, ensuite vanity, and the sleeping quarters, creating an expansive sense of volume without sacrificing intimacy.

Earthy Modernism:

A Study in Forest Green & Walnut

This kitchen redesign masterfully balances organic warmth with contemporary precision. The palette is anchored by deep forest green cabinetry, providing a sophisticated, grounded feel that perfectly complements the rich walnut overhead storage.

The Organic Sanctuary:

A Study in Texture and Tone

This master ensuite serves as a masterclass in organic modernism, where raw materiality meets refined tranquility. The design centers on a striking juxtaposition of textures—the expansive, matte sandstone-effect wall tiles provide a neutral, grounding backdrop for the shower’s pièce de résistance: a feature wall of glossy, forest-green zellige tiles that evoke a sense of lush, subterranean luxury.

Serene Stone:

A Masterclass in Minimalist Luxury

This tranquil wet room redefined, captured here by Luna Studio, is a testament to the power of a restrained palette and high-end materiality. The design centers on book-matched grey marble tiles, creating a seamless, architectural backdrop that feels both grounded and ethereal.

The Luxury of Space:

The most emotional change is the dissolution of the standard multi-bedroom structure. By sacrificing a secondary bedroom to create a massive Walk-in Wardrobe and Master Dry Area, the design prioritizes the couple's daily rituals over hypothetical guests. It transforms the Master Bedroom from a place to sleep into a private retreat.

Project Narratives:

The story begins where the clients have secured a spacious 1,275 sqft resale flat. However, the existing layout feels compartmentalized and dated. Their vision—executed by Luna Studio designer Chan Guo Lun—is not just a refurbishment, but a complete structural reconfiguration to create openness, flow, and a "hotel-suite" atmosphere in the master wing.

Chapter 1: Clearing the Canvas (The Demolition)

Before the new beauty can emerge, the old must go. The renovation kicks off with a massive "clearing of the canvas." The crew arrives to strip the apartment to its bare bones.

  • Erasing the Past: Old-fashioned ceiling cornices, window grilles, and curtains are dismantled throughout the house to modernize the vertical lines.

  • Breaking Barriers: This is the most dramatic phase. The team hacks away the foyer wall and the kitchen entrance wall, immediately opening up the entry space.

  • Reshaping the Layout: The standard HDB layout is aggressively altered. The wall separating Bedroom 2 and the Kitchen is demolished, as is the wall between Bedroom 3 and the Living Room, suggesting a desire for a larger communal area or an open-concept study. Even the existing storeroom’s "U-shape wall" is taken down, signaling that the utility space is being relocated or redesigned entirely.

Chapter 4: The Heart of the Home (The Kitchen)

The kitchen is designed to be a showpiece of functionality and style.

  • Custom Joinery: Luna Studio designs bespoke cabinetry with a mix of laminate exteriors and wood-textured interiors. The layout includes bottom cabinets, top-hung cabinets with LED grooves for ambient task lighting, and a dedicated full-height unit to seamlessly house the oven and fridge.

  • Stone & Glass: The cabinetry is topped with single-profile marble pattern sintered stone, offering a durable yet elegant work surface. A glass backing is installed, protecting the walls while adding a sleek, reflective gloss to the cooking area

  • The Service Yard: Even the laundry area gets attention, with a custom washer cabinet and a suspended ledge, turning a utility space into a neat, organized corner.

Chapter 2: The New Foundation (Masonry & Wetworks)

With the debris cleared, the rebuilding begins. This phase defines the home's new silhouette.

  • Rebuilding Boundaries: While walls came down, new ones rise up. A new hollow block wall is erected in Bedroom 2, likely resizing the room to accommodate the new kitchen layout. A new storeroom is constructed with fresh block walls, ensuring storage doesn't compromise the new aesthetic.

  • The Master Suite Extension: A unique structural change happens in the Master Bedroom. A new wall is built to create a "Master Bath Dry Area," effectively extending the bathroom into a vanity zone separate from the wet shower, adding a touch of luxury privacy.

  • The Wet Areas: The kitchen and bathrooms undergo essential waterproofing and cement screeding to prepare for high-end finishing.

Chapter 5: The Sanctuary (Master Suite & Baths)

The renovation culminates in the private quarters, where the couple retires at the end of the day.

  • The "Dry" Vanity: In the newly created Dry Area, a custom vanity cabinet with a quartz countertop is installed. This separates the grooming area from the shower, a layout choice often found in luxury hotels.

  • The Glass Divide: Perhaps the most striking feature is in the Master Room: a massive 3.75-meter wide Aluminium folding door system with clear glass. This likely replaces a solid wall, allowing light to flood in and connecting the bedroom to the adjacent space (possibly the repurposed Bedroom 3 or balcony) while maintaining acoustic privacy

  • Spa-Like Baths: Both bathrooms are fitted with new stainless steel plumbing, rain showers, and new WCs. The old swing doors are replaced with space-saving Slide PD doors with ventilation louvers.

Chapter 3: The Warmth of Home (Flooring & Surfaces)

Now, the home begins to find its texture and color.

  • Seamless Flow: To banish the cold feel of traditional tiles, Evorich Evo Herf vinyl flooring in a wood-embossed finish is laid throughout the Living room, Balcony, Master Room, and even the Kitchen. This creates a warm, continuous visual line that makes the apartment feel expansive.

  • A Fresh Coat: The entire unit is treated to a full painting process using Nippon Vinilex 5000, ensuring the walls are smooth, crisp, and ready to reflect the light.

  • Refined Ceilings: In the Living area and Master Room, false ceilings are installed to hide wiring and likely house recessed lighting, creating a clean, modern overhead plane.

The Conclusion: A $96,000 Transformation

The journey ends with the "Miscellaneous Works"—the final haulage of debris, a general chemical wash of the whole unit, and the laying of floor protection for the move-in.

After a "Good Will Discount" of over $5,000, the total investment for this complete reimagining of the client’s home stands at $96,000. They are left not just with a renovated flat, but with a re-architected living space that flows from a grand open living area into a private, glass-enclosed master retreat.
